Thank you for your interest in our qualification courses for child day care according to the QHB.

In 2025, we are offering a morning course in March and in October the dates are spread over evenings, individual days, blocks and Saturdays.

If you do not live in the Munich city area, please contact your local youth welfare office and us.

These are the next steps if you live in the city of Munich:

Before you can start, you must attend an information event at the City of Munich. You must then contact your responsible social education specialist with this information. You will find out who is responsible for you at the information event.

  • If you would like to look after children at home, you will find the current links under the term "Information event on working in child daycare at home"
  • If you would like to look after children together with a colleague - in a large day care center, you will find the current links under the term "Online information from the City Youth Welfare Office on working in a large day care center in Munich". (Registration is possible on the 1st working day of each month from 7 a.m. until 7 a.m. the next day, the number of places is limited - try to register as early as possible). The events here are currently taking place online in the form of brochures being sent out.

Here you can see the current information events.

Next, please contact your responsible social education specialist. You will find out who is responsible for you at the information event. The responsible socio-educational specialist at the Sozialbürgerhaus/ Stadtjugendamt will talk to you to check your suitability and inform you about the next steps (e.g. pre-study internships) and necessary documents.

Our job-preparation qualification courses take place in a small setting with a maximum of 12 participants, mainly in presence and may include some small parts in online format (please have a laptop ready, preferably with a headset - if this is not possible for you, please contact us - we will find a solution together).

We use a wide variety of methods so that you can prepare for your new job with as much fun and enjoyment as possible. The qualification, which comprises 173 teaching units, lasts approx. six months and takes place in a fixed group. You are allowed to miss a maximum of 10% of lessons (regardless of your reasons!) in order to be admitted to the learning outcomes assessment.

Participation in the qualification requires very good German language skills in order to be able to follow the course content and pass the learning outcome assessment at the end.

Among other things, the following documents must be submitted to the responsible socio-educational specialist at the (municipal) youth welfare office/social community center before the start of a qualification:

  • Extended police clearance certificate
  • Secondary school leaving certificate or higher qualification or vocational training (copy of the original or certified copy)
  • Medical opinion
  • Initial instruction according to § 43 IfSG
  • Declaration of consent for information to the educational institution

If you would like to attend a training course with us , please send an email to Barbara Paul(barbara.paul@familienservice.de) or Alexandra Helmes(alexandra.helmes@familienservice.de):

  • Your full name
  • Your telephone number
  • Your address
  • Mail address
  • the name of your responsible socio-educational specialist and contact details
  • which course you would like to attend with us
  • where you would like to work later
    a) Child day care at home with your family or
    b) child day care in a GTP or
    c) in a MiniKita or kindergarten as an assistant (the entry requirements are different here and places are limited - please contact us promptly if you would like to work in a (mini)childcare center later on)

so that Barbara Paul or Alexandra Helmes can add you to our list of interested parties.

In addition, the following documents must be submitted to us no later than 14 days before the start of the course:

  • Officially certified copy of school leaving certificate (at least secondary school leaving certificate) or completed vocational training
  • In the case of foreign school-leaving qualifications, an officially certified copy of a certificate of equivalence from the certificate recognition office
  • in the event of a change of name (e.g. due to marriage): Copy of the identity card
  • Confirmation from the City Youth Welfare Office that an extended certificate of good conduct and a medical examination form have been submitted and that you are allowed to take part in the course

During the course, you will normally complete two internships of 40 hours each (with a KTPP in a family / GTP from our mentor pool and in a facility, e.g. day nursery).

The course also requires a high level of commitment to additional work outside of course times - you will meet in learning groups, deal with specialist literature, solve tasks and, above all, reflect on your attitude and actions. The Federal Association for Child Day Care requires, among other things, proof of at least 100 teaching units of self-study. Most participants provide evidence of more.

In order to be able to take part in the learning outcome assessment at the end of the course, you will independently create a pedagogical concept during the qualification , develop and present cases according to the four guiding questions for practical situations (based on the six phases of the complete action).

We recommend that you discuss with your immediate environment whether and how you can receive support during this very intensive period of the course and how you can organize and plan everything (privately and professionally).

Please bear in mind that the course times and self-study units also include travel times and distances. We would like to kindly point out that you are not entitled to any appointments in online format.

As you can see, there is a lot to do before you can start and during the qualification, so please allow enough time.

The personal contribution/costs that you have to pay for the qualification are 340 euros for people from the city of Munich and 680 euros for people from the districts.

We offer pre-employment training twice a year - one in the spring and one in the fall - and would be delighted to accompany you on your new career start.
