(Welt am Sonntag, 22.04.2018) Life between a child and a job: it's a daily balancing act. That's why many parents want support: a babysitter who lovingly looks after their offspring and quickly steps in when a sudden appointment comes up. Or a Au-Pair who lives in the household for a year and can pick up the children from childcare center and school every day. Childminders are more in demand than ever since the classic housewife model became obsolete. But what should you look out for in a babysitter or childminder? How much pocket money does a Au-pair get? And do I have to employ the childminder? Welt editor Anne Kunz spoke to Anne Mader, who is responsible for childcare at pme Familienservice , among others.
Anne Mader knows why childminders in particular are becoming increasingly popular among parents: The childcare times are more flexible and can be individually tailored. The groups are also manageable and quieter - and in emergencies, the children can even stay overnight with the childminder. Perfect for parents who work full-time or have shift work. From pme expert Mader's point of view, another advantage is that the children grow up more oriented towards everyday life. They go shopping with the childminder or help with cooking or hanging out the washing. Another advantage is that childminders employed by the city have to undergo further training and are therefore generally well qualified. The costs for parents vary, as they are based on the regional childcare rates for public facilities.
