A historic location: The pme Familienservice Group opens new childcare center "Im Quartier" in Bremen
Plenty of space for 60 children to play
Under the umbrella of Global Education gGmbH, a wholly owned subsidiary of pme Familienservice GmbH, the new childcare center "Im Quartier" in Bremen-Woltmershausen opened on 16.07.2021. With around 840 square meters of indoor space and around 900 square meters of outdoor space, there is plenty of room to play and run around. The two elementary groups can each care for 20 children aged 3 to 6. In the two crèche groups there are 10 children each from 1 to 3 years. The facility only offers public places. The concept was developed with the participation of Dr. Ilse Wehrmann.
An old factory with new charm
The 20-hectare former tobacco factory site is being transformed into a new place for working, living and culture. "We are proud to be part of such an exciting concept that offers many opportunities. The old factory is gradually being filled with young life. It combines old architecture with modernity and vibrancy. The direct connection to numerous cultural institutions offers the opportunity for many collaborations that will benefit our children and parents," says a delighted Sandra De Rose, Head of Facilities.
Difficult conditions due to the pandemic
The conversion of childcare center was accompanied by the restrictions imposed by the coronavirus pandemic. "Due to the contact restrictions, many construction meetings took place virtually. This meant that many decisions took longer, as we were often not on site to give quick feedback. There was also an extremely high shortage of materials due to the pandemic, which meant that the opening of childcare center was briefly on hold," recalls De Rose.
Nevertheless, the manager looks back on the team's collaboration with pride: "Creating and designing childcare center together has welded and strengthened the team. We have created a special childcare center that offers plenty of scope and space for new learning worlds".
