More time for the children thanks to the childcare center app
Digital check-in by parents, warm support for children at the start of the day from our educational staff: our childcare center facilitates communication between parents and educators and the documentation of everyday educational activities. This not only saves paper and printer cartridges, but above all time.
"Emil is unfortunately ill today" flashes the message on the tablet display of the Wolkenzwerge childcare center in Berlin in the morning. At the pme Lernwelten childcare centers , parents and teachers communicate via an app. With just a few clicks, parents can call in their child sick in the morning or let them know who will be picking them up in the afternoon. "That alone makes our work easier. With just a glance at the app, I can see which children are already here, which are sick and which are still missing," says Benjamin-Henrik Mahl from the childcare center team at pme Lernwelten.
All events of the day digitally documented
The heart of the app is that the teachers can document the children's day via the digital log. When did the child eat and what, was it changed, did it sleep, did it learn something new? Instead of communicating this verbally to each parent or writing it down on paper as before, the teachers can simply type everything that happened during the day into the app. Special activities and experiences such as "Emil discovered a butterfly!" or "We built an insect hotel today" are also messages that can be recorded in the diary or the activity messages of the day.
Important educational moments are captured in the digital portfolio in moments and learning stories. The educational areas and learning dispositions of the educational moments can be noted within the app. This allows educators to create an individual review for each child and discuss it with parents.
More time for individual support
Thanks to the app, a lot of information reaches parents during the day, so that there is more time to talk about more important matters such as the child's development when picking up the children. The digital documentation saves the childcare center time, which benefits both the children and the parents. Thanks to the childcare center, they spend less time on everyday matters such as meals and bedtimes, and are better able to discuss what the child has experienced and how he or she has fared throughout the day.
One channel for everything
The childcare center reduces the administrative workload for educators because information reaches parents more quickly and in a more targeted manner. "Instead of phone calls, text messages or other communication channels, we inform parents via a single channel," explains Benjamin. "We can also easily send information about the upcoming parents' evening or the menu using the app. And we can even see who has read the message and who hasn't yet."
Individual communication
Educators and parents don't have to worry about overflowing chat groups like on WhatsApp or other messaging services. The childcare center creates opportunities for joint chat groups with the child's entire family or individually adapted to the needs of the persons with custody.
Door-to-door conversations remain important
The app, which is free of charge for parents, does not replace personal discussions and exchanges between parents and teachers. But it is a supplement: because facts such as bedtime or eating habits are already clarified, there is room to focus more on the child's individual experiences and development or to talk about educational concepts.
The app is very popular with parents. They feel well informed, even if they don't pick up the children themselves, and are happy to receive messages from their child. Parents and teachers are also on the safe side when it comes to data protection. The data in the childcare center is subject to European data protection regulations.
