Peer-to-peer professional exchange: working with parents from different cultures

Topic:

In child day care, we meet families from different cultures. In this professional exchange, we advisors will give a brief expert impulse on what successful communication with parents from other cultural backgrounds can look like.

In the discussion that follows, the participants share their experiences and perspectives. The aim is to raise awareness of cultural differences and broaden understanding of cultural diversity. On the one hand, it is about a self-reflective attitude towards one's own cultural imprint and, on the other hand, about becoming aware that the unfamiliar is often unsettling at first.

Practical suggestions are collected together in order to better understand and respond to the social, linguistic and cultural needs of children and their parents in intercultural situations.
