Exposing fake news: Media literacy for adults
In today’s media landscape, we encounter fake news, AI-generated content, tabloid journalism, and populist messages on a daily basis. The attention economies of these phenomena are very similar, and algorithmic decision-making systems on social media, as well as the political stance of platform operators, contribute to their rapid spread.
This lecture is aimed at all adults who want to critically examine media content and confidently debunk false reports. You will learn how to recognize problematic content in everyday life, which is particularly relevant in the context of political education. We will shed light on the mechanisms behind the spread of misinformation and provide you with practical strategies to strengthen your media literacy. Understand the connections and develop a trained eye for manipulative content so you can make informed decisions.
