More sport in the new year: 4 tips for sticking with it!

Is sport at the top of your list of good intentions for 2023? With these four tips from our health scientist Pia Grocholl, you can integrate more exercise into your everyday life and stick to it!

Eating healthier, losing weight, spending less time on their cell phones - these topics are at the top of most people's list of New Year's resolutions. However, the topic of "more exercise and sport" is also a perennial favorite.

1. set yourself a concrete goal

Think about why you want to incorporate more exercise into your everyday life. Do you want to clear your head or are you looking for a balance to your stressful everyday life? Would you like to climb the stairs to the fifth floor without huffing and puffing? Or perhaps you would like to take part in a sporting competition?

If you set yourself a specific goal, you will know why you want to make more time for exercise. Keep this goal in mind if your motivation starts to wane. Because a good reason makes it easier to stick with it!

2. take out the pressure

When it comes to doing more sport, we often think of workouts and high-performance sports. This puts us under enormous pressure and makes it almost impossible to implement the resolution.

Take the pressure off! It's good to consciously incorporate more exercise into your everyday life: take the stairs instead of the elevator, ride your bike to the shops or go for a walk during your lunch break. These small exercise sessions help to clear your head, reduce stress and make you feel better.

3. take small steps forward

To get closer to your goal of moving more, you should start with small steps. Plan shorter exercise and sports units that you can slowly increase if necessary. This way you will experience your first sense of achievement without losing motivation.

For example, you can start by doing 10 to 15 minutes of exercise a day. Implement these small units and stick to them in the long term! If you take on too much, you will quickly lose interest!

4. look for allies

Exercise is more fun together! Look for allies who want to do more sport with you in the new year. This will motivate you and make your plans more binding. Arrange to go for a short walk or take part in the same online course together and exchange ideas. If you don't feel like it, your allies will motivate you.
