Fish made from salt dough

DIY: 5 simple and cool craft ideas for children

The salt dough

Salt dough is super easy and quick to make. And you probably have all the ingredients at home. All you need is:

  • 2 parts flour
  • 1 part salt
  • 1 part water
  • some oil as required

Mix the flour and salt together in a bowl. Then add the water and knead everything into a smooth dough. Of course, you can also use a food processor for this. But perhaps the children would like to knead the dough themselves. Finally, add the vegetable oil. The dough then needs to be kneaded again thoroughly to make it smoother.
Now it's up to your imagination: fish, cubes, cups, animals, groceries for the store - knead whatever you like!

Once the salt dough is baked, you can paint it individually with finger paint or watercolor.

Marble pictures

Painting with marbles is a great experience for children. As well as stimulating the imagination, rolling the marble on the page develops motor skills. All you need for this is:

  • Cardboard box
  • Color
  • Paper
  • Straws or marbles

For the marble picture, place a white sheet of paper in a cardboard box. Then put finger paints on the paper and place the marbles in the box. Now tilt the box back and forth so that the marbles leave trails of paint on the picture as they roll around.

Assign colors correctly

All you need for this game is:

  • an empty egg carton
  • Duplo/Lego bricks in different colors

Draw different color combinations on a blank sheet of paper and place them in the cavities of the egg carton. Now the children can match the Duplo or Lego bricks to the correct colors in the carton. This can be combined as often as you like and at different levels of difficulty.

Painting with PET bottles

All you need for this craft tip is:

  • Finger paint and
  • the bottom of a PET bottle

Dab the PET bottle in your favorite color and print the shape of a petal on the paper. With a little bit of green paint or some handmade flower petals, you can create a colorful flower meadow that perfectly matches the beautiful spring weather.

Making slime from starch

For this you need:

  • Hot, non-boiling water
  • 2 cups cornflour
  • 1-2 bowls and
  • Food coloring as desired

If you want to use food coloring, mix the food coloring with a glass of hot water in a separate bowl.

Pour the two cups of cornflour into the second bowl. Now gradually add a little water to the cornflour until you have a thick, lumpy mixture. You don't need the whole glass of water, but about 1/3.
