Episode 20: Burn on: Always under stress
Always under stress, always pushing on, always on the verge of collapse. But you don't burn out. What is it then? Have you ever heard of "burn out"?
"I can manage that!" Or: "It's all just a question of organization!" Everyone knows them: People who are always under pressure, under stress 24/7, rushing from one appointment to the next. No time to take a deep breath or for family, friends or hobbies! The day would have to have 28 hours or more for that.
Many of them then end up burning out at some point. Some, however, simply carry on working. They may be stressed, but they still function. Psychologists Bert te Wildt and Timo Schiele call this phenomenon "burn-on". In their book "Burn-on: Always on the verge of burn-out", they describe this condition as a persistent state of exhaustion.
