Sarah Desai: "Live the life you want to live"

We often stand in our own way with negative beliefs. Coach Sarah Desai shows you methods to open your eyes to new paths.

You say that many of us have mental blocks that block our view of unexpected opportunities. How do we recognize such blockages?

Sarah Desai: The main way we recognize mental blocks is that we don't trust ourselves to do things that we are perfectly capable of doing.

How is it that we so often get in our own way through blockages or negative associations?

Sarah Desai: Our negative associations are fed by our attention. In other words, our worries about potential dangers are fed by our constant brooding about them. For example, the more we devote ourselves to "I can't do it anyway" or "What could happen" and the better and more sophisticated we become at finding reasons to believe that everything is difficult and hopeless anyway, the more we get caught up in our spiral of negative associations and beliefs. We toss and turn in our negative associations and worries until they completely envelop us and we become incapable of acting. In other words: until we are blocked.

What is the first step when I want to change something? Is there a life hack that always helps?

Sarah Desai: "Caring instead of worrying!" By consciously focusing on a potential solution, you activate the areas in your brain that have often been involved in successfully resolving difficult life situations in the past. Remember how you have already overcome small and large hurdles in your life and turned hopelessness into perspective.

Remember how you have already found solutions and resolved difficulties countless times. In this way, you will extract the solution resources from your subconscious and a wide variety of solutions will open up for your current situation.
